Programme Announcement

FOSS Backstage Design is just around the corner, and we are excited to share what awaits you!

We will kick off this year’s FOSS Backstage Design with three carefully selected talks, followed by lunch and a barcamp in the afternoon.

We are thrilled to welcome Marta Marczykowska-Górecka, the UX lead for Qubes OS, as one of our speakers. In her talk titled “Beyond Looking Good: How to Talk to Developers About Design,” she will provide valuable insights on effective communication between designers and developers.

We are also excited to announce that Martin Keary, Head of Software at Muse Group, will speak on “Achieving Excellence in Open Source Software Design.” Martin is responsible for the widely-used open-source application MuseScore and the renowned open-source audio editor Audacity.

Stay tuned for the announcement of our third speaker, who will be revealed soon. Follow FOSS Backstage Design on social media or subscribe to our newsletter to ensure you don’t miss it!

The second part of the conference will feature our barcamp. This format allows the program to be shaped by the interests of the participants, encourages everyone to contribute to the event, and is a lot of fun! During the barcamp, we will create the program on-the-fly. So, bring your session ideas and see what others would like to discuss.

At the inaugural edition, topics covered included:

  • Design methods
  • User research
  • Integrating design into product development
  • Writing effective documentation
  • Testing and measuring usability
  • Designing for XR using the power of open-source tools

You can find recordings of all talks given at FOSS Backstage Design 2024 here.
